Why are we called Three Goats Coffee?
Our name THREE GOATS COFFEE comes from the story of Kaldi and his goats.
Kaldi, a young ethiopian goatherd, came upon his goats one night bounding about a hillside in a strange
manner after ingesting some red berries from a shrub. Even the oldest and weakest goats were frolicking wildly with unknown energy. Kaldi, feeling a little tired himself, tried some of the berries. He immediately began to prance and cavort with his goats, no longer tired. From then on, Kaldi and his goats indulged themselves by eating more of the berries each day. Later, the head of a nearby monastery happened upon Kaldi and his goats dancing about and asked for an explanation. The monk sampled the berries and immediately felt exhilaration flow through his weary body. The monks later began to boil the berries in water and drink the liquid so they could more easily stay awake during religious services.
The story of Kaldi and his dancing goats embodies the atmosphere that THREE GOATS COFFEE works to create; a fun and inviting atmosphere where our community can come to grab a drink or eat, meet friends and family, do business, relax, read or work.
